Long-Form Travel Essay

Food52.com
In this narrative essay written for Food52, I combined place-based history with personal storytelling centered on family, food, and the transformative power of travel. It was among the first stories to appear in the site’s “My Family Recipes” franchise, and it marked the beginning of a strategic expansion of its entertainment-centric (vs service-oriented) content inventory. Relative to Food52's audience size at the time, it yielded engagement beyond benchmark – e.g. 13 comments on site (compared to an average six comments per story in the My Family Recipes franchise).
